Today is the ‘big’ day, November 4th. I always thought maybe it was August 20th, my birthday. But that was how I was raised. Here in California, my greatest wish is to defeat a horrid issue the extreme fundaMENTAList religious groups in the country felt important enough to spend over one MILLION dollars on. Geez louise. I was brought up Protestant. That makes me christian, right? I never got that Jesus/god was so omnipotent that he gave a damn about who choses who to live with. I am now a Unitarian Universalist, and my church is at the forefront of challenging the Proposition 8, saving the sanctity of Marriage. I pray for the ‘Yes on 8’ promoters. They are so wrapped up in a concept of Right and Might, that they have forgotten the golden rule, ‘Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you’. I apologize for the soapbox stand. But dear lord, my sister has been with her partner for 35 years together, I love them both dearly. They have endured a rush of marriages, all same sex, in the past month. The both of them decided that it wasn’t important. What is important is being recognized as individuals that love one another. Doesn’t matter what pant leg is chosen in the morning dressing. Really. What matters is healthy minds giving a damn about one another. And polka music.
I was privileged to enjoy Sam Phillips this past weekend in San Francisco at the Yoshi’s location. One of my favorite lines from her music, is ” I need god, not the political church”
so true. I pray for good for all. And that Brave Combo will come back to california sometime soon. The cotati Accordion Fest was fun, but lacked the Combo. You can’t be everywhere. But here you are, and I thank you. I guess I just hope that we aren’t singing ” Who stole the Kishka/Election” this year.
    polka on.
