*MENTAL TOUR*
Gig #25
28 July 1979
Friday
—–A THRILLING DANCE AT TRAVIS STATE SCHOOL——-
Austin, TX
The residents were a bit older this time and they were ready for us. Many men 30–50 years old congregated around us when we pulled up, asking what music we played etc. They helped us carry in our equipment (we were on a stage in a gym very good acoustics) so we were soon set up. My tenor sax had a couple of keys fall off so I had to tape over the holes but it worked fine.
Many people came, about 3-400 and the hall was filled with dancing residents, many of them yelling and screaming around the bandstand. The state school workers were dancing around too and very pretty they were. We played at least 1 1/2 hors without stopping – pretty much continuous music. We were pretty tired, but this mental gig was the best yet.
