The Second First Annual POLKAPOCALYPSE! will showcase Polka, a rich, rebounding Texas cultural tradition, drawing upon the diverse ethnic cultures that helped build the current Texas cultural landscape. Tap your boots to that oompa Tejano, Czech, German, Ukranian, Polish, Slavic, and Mexican Polka beat!

POLKAPOCALYPSE! is produced by The Elisabet Ney Museum and Texas Folklife, with support from Texas Commission on the Arts.

In 1892, Elisabet Ney, a German classically-trained sculptor, moved to Austin and built “Formosa,” her remarkable limestone Neoclassical and Gothic Revival studio. Many famous pieces were created in this castle-like structure. Much of her German-era work, including portraits of great philosophers, composers, and royalty, is also housed here. A designated historic landmark, the Museum is dedicated to her art and legacy, and contains the largest collection of her works in the world.

Texas Folklife is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to presenting and preserving the diverse cultures and living heritage of the Lone Star State. For the last 30 years, Texas Folklife has honored the authentic cultural traditions passed down within communities, explored their importance in contemporary society, and celebrated them by providing accessible and joyful arts experiences.
