UNUSUAL ENTERTAINMENT AT THE USUAL PLACE:
Brave Combo and the Polka Dots
The Usual Place, Ft. Worth Dr., Denton, TX
This establishment is mostly for eating; Joyce Meadows, the owner and proprieter, asked us to hold the volume down duringtthe first set. So that we did, sticking to lighter polkas and such. Lyle had invited Mrs. Clifton and members of the Golden Eagles Jazz Band to come; some of them did, They all seemed to enjoy it. We brought out the Dots to unprecedented public demand in the 2nd set. Everything went well except I neglected to turn on Peggy’s mic (really, I thought I did!)

The second Dot set went with no hitches. I wore a coat and tie both nights to upgrade the band image in this swanky place (serving free popcorn). There was dancing the the aisles last set.

This is incredible. I was at that show on December 14, 1979. I was in a musical theater show with Karen Gustavus, one of the Dots, so it was double fun to see her AND hear Brave Combo together. Today is December 6, 2021. That show was 42 years ago, but I still remember it. I’ve often wondered what became of Karen. I moved out of Texas and lost touch with her. Did she continue her singing career? Is she still in the Denton area? All the best to Brave Combo and all who perform with them!
