TERREL STATE HOSPITAL: BRAVE COMBO’S FIRST STREET DANCE

I rode with Lyle, the equipment and trailer we got everything out and half set up before the rest (Carl, Dave, Jane, and Bob) arrived.  Spent some time messing with Carl’s piano as some keys seemed to be sticking or not working properly.  We played a couple of polkas and the patients seemed to want rock ‘n roll so that is what they got a lot of.  After a while we could play anything we wanted though.

A few of them sang with us through the PA.  The assistants dindn’t seem to like that very much and were finally shooing them away from us.

Red Cross came and served refreshments – thimblefuls of punch (red) and chocolate chip cookies.

Most patients seemed sedated and sat down to listen rather than dance.

Big hungry mosquitoes attacked us as we were packing up, hastening our departure.
